Depending on individual risk, most men begin prostate cancer screenings between the ages of 40-50 years old. But without access to information regarding personal risk or the ability to receive appropriate screenings, a prostate cancer diagnosis can easily go undetected and thus, untreated. The lack of accessibility to prostate cancer screening and treatment shouldn’t be the reason a man’s life ends short. Therefore, the Southeast Urologic Oncology Foundation’s mission is to provide access to screening, treatment and care.
The Southeast Urologic Oncology Foundation, in partnership with The Urology Specialists Of The Carolinas, is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The foundation is a result of Dr. Daniel L. Watson's passion for urologic oncology and personal pursuit to make treatment and care accessible for under or uninsured men. The SUOF not only provides urologic oncology care and prostate cancer treatment, but funds advancements in prostate cancer research.
The board for the Southeast Urologic Oncology Foundation is made up of four highly distinguished individuals, each of whom plays a critical role in the local Charlotte community and has a strong affinity for the cause. Learn more about them below.
The risk of prostate cancer in African American men is 60% higher than in white men. African Americans make up a large number of the underinsured and uninsured population in our country, therefore enhancing the importance of the SUOF’s mission.
With early detection, the cure rate for prostate cancer is almost 99%. This number drops significantly in more aggressive cancers or once it has metastasized, proving how vital screenings and early detection are for saving the lives of men with prostate cancer.
There are 3 million survivors of prostate cancer in the United States today. Life goes on after prostate cancer–3 million Americans are living testimonies to that! Early detection and access to treatment is what has made this possible–let’s help millions of more men.
